Dyslexia Therapy vs. Tutoring

One of the most common questions we receive is, "What's the difference between therapy and tutoring?" Tutoring is designed to support students with schoolwork. It is a short term solution to help students improve grades, reinforce material taught in classes, and to complete assignments. Generally, it occurs 1-2 times per week. While tutoring has its place and is very valuable, most times instruction is not designed with the specific needs of a dyslexic student in mind.

Dyslexia therapy is designed to specifically address core difficulties in multiple literacy areas. Therapy works best when sessions are conducted as a high intensity and high frequency; often 2-5 times per week.

In short, tutoring helps students keep up, but dyslexia therapy teaches them how to read and write more effectively. Take a moment to look at the chart below for even more specifics between the two service types!
